Smoothie Adventures #3: Peanut Butter, Banana & Chocolate!

September 6, 2010

Peanut Butter, Banana and Chocolate Smoothies

(this fills our blender..you can adjust for single servings)

1-2 C of ice – depending on how you like it. I prefer this with little ice chunks in it, you can leave this part out if you’d like

1 C Peanut Butter

2-3 Frozen, very ripe bananas

Milk til about 1/2 full (then adjust for your thickness quotient)

1/4 C Ovaltine

1 C Fresh Spinach Leaves

shot of honey

additional goodies: ground flax or chai seed, 1/4 C protein powder, toasted wheat germ, etc.

I used to get a smoothie like this from the smoothie place when I lived in Austin and was working at  B.Dalton in the Mall. I’d show up as soon as they opened to get one for breakfast, or sometimes for lunch. They used carob powder as their chocolate base. I think I lived on them and migas during the days, and crackers and hot sauce at night for the whole two years I lived there (except for the occasional spinach pizza I’d have at my friend Karen’s house when we’d have weekly movie marathons). I’m sure I ate veggies and such along the way, but these are the 3 meals I remember the most of my time there.

Hi there! I surfed over here from your comment on “Good Cheap Eats.” Your blog is pretty great, and I’m so excited to see that you’re a homeschooler (who has good taste in young adult fiction!). My daughter is going to be 2 in a few weeks, but we’re starting to get our stuff in order for homeschooling. Could you drop me an email sometime? I’d love to pick your brain on what I need to get started!

    Hope to hear from you!

Mmm, really, spinach? I’d love to try this with my kids…is the spinach noticeable because I’m not sure they’d go for it if it is. But that is an awesomely sneaky recipe!

Depending on how much you use, it may or may not be noticeable. I’d start out with a little at first, and work your way up! We do about a cup of firmly packed fresh spinach, and no one complains :)
